Mike
Blackman
Mike began his broadcast career in
1962 at WUSM in Havelock, NC as a staff announcer.
A year later he moved to WRNB in New Bern, NC, then to
WKIX in Raleigh as "Johnny Dark." After
his days of a rock 'n roll DJ were over, Mike
began his news career in 1967 as a news anchor and
reporter at WKIX until 1972 when he came to WPTF
News. Mike is the recipient of the Order
of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest civilian award
presented in North Carolina. Over the years he has
interviewed people in just about all walks of
life...from Presidents and Prime Ministers to
Governors, Soccer Moms, to the
"guy-next-door." Mike says his most
surprising interview was with Eddie Hatcher who had
taken The Robersonian newspaper hostage.
"I placed a call to the newspaper, and Hatcher
answered! However the interviews that top all of
those are the interviews with children on any
topic."
